Best Android free app for Microsoft Exchange

Even though Android market is the fastest growing mobile app market, there are still some areas which have a few good applications, one of them is clients for third party emails. Android's stock email client doesn't play nice with Microsoft Exchange. If your organization doesn't support ActiveSync you will have to look around in the market to get a functional app for MS Exchange and if you are looking for a free app then you'll run out of options very soon. Touchdown is the best commercial Exchange app available today in the Android market, you can download a fully functional 30 days demo from the market. Its a great app with Microsoft Outlook like interface, which makes it easier to use, it can be found in the market by name "Exchange for Android 2.x".

In free apps MailDroid is the only app I could find functional with MS Exchange in the market. I tried to integrate my Exchange account with K-9 many times, it never worked. MailDroid seems to behave immaturely, many times it shows programming exceptions on the UI but still it is the only app which works with my corporate email account. Its interface is not something which everyone would like, you have to jiggle a bit to get familiar with the app. Exchange Calendar is available but you have to dig it out. There are no notifications for the calendar. I'll give K-9 another try to avoid the nightmare of MailDroid.
Verdict: it doesn't make sense to select the best app when there is only one functional app, lets wait for a few more; until then we'll have to tolerate MailDroid.
